Leola Alice Bond
Leola graduated from MacDonald Consolidated School, Kingston, as valedictorian, in 1943 and was a recipient of the Governor Generals Medal. She trained as a beautician and hairdresser and after marriage worked in such places as Manchester Robertson Allison, Saint John and later the Royal York Hotel in Toronto. She had a small hair salon in her Kingston home for some years.
She was first, and foremost, a loving mother and wife, and while her children were small she taught Junior Auxiliary Sunday School; Young Peoples, and was involved with the Kindness Club. Musically gifted, she enjoyed playing most musical instruments and taught piano lessons. She will be remembered for often gathering up the local children to go swimming with the family, or for hosting camping trips for everyone. She had a great love of flowers and gardening and took classes and painted in watercolors and oils.
Leola found time for everyone and continued all her life to contribute so much. She worked with her husband for forty years in their family auction business and was active in her community and church, sang in the choir, and played organ at Cody’s Baptist Church until her death.
She will be greatly missed by all of her family and friends. She was the loving mother of daughter; Sylvia Bernice and George Crothers, Saint John, and sons; Kevin Russell and Judy Thomas, Kingston, and Harold Allan Bond at home, foster daughter Ronda and Leonard Stevens, three grandchildren; Eric James Bond, and Nathanial Russell Bond, their mother; Heather MacAlpine, and Kristopher Stuart Pope, brothers; Alvin Flewelling, Saint John, and Burton Flewelling, Kingston, and several nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family member, Kevin Crannie of Toronto, Ontario. Leola was predeceased by her sisters; Marion O’Hare, New Jersey, USA, and Roberta Parker, Grand Manan Island and her brother Ernest Flewelling, Fredericton.
